Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen bowed out of the Denmark Open 750 tournament after losing to Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in the quarter-finals of the tournament in straight sets, in Odense on Friday. Naraoka, ranked 24th in the world, defeated world number 8 indian with a scoreline of 21-17, 21-12 in a match that lasted 46 minutes. With Lakshya’s loss, Indian challenge at the tournament also came to an end. Earlier in the day, Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost 16-21, 19-21 to World champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia in the last-8 stage.

Lakshya made a slow start to the match but picked up his pace midway through the opening game to take a narrow 14-13 lead. However, the Japanese player quickly got his act together to edge the first game. In the second game, the Indians fell behind from the start and went down by 11-3 at one point. The 21-year-old commonwealth Games champion was not able to keep his unforced errors in check, which ended up resulting in his loss.
