Badminton has always been one of the most highly anticipated sports at the Commonwealth Games. Since its debut at the 1966 Commonwealth Games, badminton has been included in 14 successive editions. Ace shuttlers PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and  Kidambi Srikanth will lead India’s badminton challenge at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, UK, starting Thursday. Badminton events will begin on Friday at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Center with the mixed team competition. India, the defending champions in the mixed team event, are in Group A with Australia, Srilanka and Pakistan. A total of 16 teams are participating in the mixed team event with the top two teams from each group making the knockouts.

India as a badminton team is probably going through its best phase in history, having won the Thomas Cup a few weeks ago, while the likes of Sindhu and Lakshya winning singles titles of late.
