Indian badminton team will begin their Mixed team campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2022 by taking on Pakistan in the first Group A match on Day 1 of the Games on Friday, 29th July 2022. India are the defending champions in the Mixed team event, having won the gold medal in the CWG 2018 in Gold Coast. India has won 25 gold medals, since the sport made its debut in the event in 1966 in Kingston. Team India’s match against Pakistan is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm IST.
India’s preliminary round clash against the neighbors is unlikely to create much buzz because the two teams come from opposite ends of the spectrum. Team India won six gold medals at Gold Coast, four years ago. The India team consists of two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, former world number one Kidambi Srikanth, All England Open runner-up Lakshya Sen. in the men’s doubles Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are ranked eighth in the world. Besides Pakistan, the other teams in Group A are Australia and Sri Lanka. The top two teams from each of the four groups will go through to the knockout stage.
