Ace Indian men’s shuttler Kidambi Srikanth defeated China’s Lu Guangzu 21-10, 21-15 to book a place in the quarterfinals of the BWF World Championship. The former world No. 1 took a healthy lead in the opening game, which also saw him secure seven consecutive points.

Although Guangzu showed some resistance in the second game, Srikanth managed to race away after the midway mark. This was the 28-year-old’s third win in a row, having earlier defeated Spain’s Pablo Abian and China’s Li Shi Feng.

Srikanth’s next oppenet is Netherlands’ Mark Caljouw. The Dutchman had defeated Canadian Brian Yang 22-20, 21-12 to secure a last 8 birth.

HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen also through to last 8

HS Prannoy continued his fine run as he knocked out Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke 16-21, 21-8, 22-20 to enter the quarterfinals here on Thursday night. It was the 29-year-old first win against the World No. 10 shuttler in three attempts. The Indian will take on Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew for a place in the semi-finals.

The young Lakshya Sen also made it to the quarterfinals after overcoming Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon 21-13, 21-8 in just 32 minutes. The 20-year-old Indian will face China’s Zhao Jun Peng in his next match.
