Prannoy secured the victory with a scoreline of 17-21, 21-16 and 21-17. It was a gruelling one hour and 15 minute battle between sen and Prannoy. Sen, who came into the tournament with a Commonwealth Games gold medal, raced to a 3-0 lead in the first game. But Prannoy bounced back to level the score at 4-4. Although Sen was in control of the first game and pocketed it at 21-17, Prannoy came back stronger in the second.

The 30-year-old won the second game with a scoreline of 21-16. The third game was no different from the first two as there wasn’t much separating both shuttlers in the early stages. But Pranoy slowly took a 11-8 lead before securing the game and thereby the match at 21-17. Meanwhile the men’s doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun continues their impressive run to make the last eight of the prestigious tournament. Veteran Saina Nehwal crashed out at the pre-quarter final stage courtesy of losing 17-21, 21-16, 13-21 to Thai opponent Busanan Ongbamrungphan.
The 2022 BWF world Championship will commence on August 22 and end on August 28.
