Sen, who had won a bronze medal in the last edition of the competition, played some exceptional cross court returns to trouble the veteran shuttler from Denmark. There was no lack of effort from the 36-year-old Dane, but Sen was simply unstoppable. the India ran away with the opening game. Although Vittinghus managed to engage in some long rallies, Sen used his winners to finish them off. Meanwhile the women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponapa and N Sikki Reddy overcame Maldives duo of Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq and Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq in straight games, 21-7, 21-9. MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapilla made into the second round in men’s doubles, beating Thailand pair Supak Jomkoh and K Kedren 21-17, 17-21, 22-20.
