Chinese shuttlers Shi Yuqi and Lu Guangzu will face each other in the title decider in the men’s singles category at the badminton Australian Open on Sunday. Guang Zu secured a straight set win over Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong in the semi-final match on Saturday, while Shi had to go the extra yard against Japan’s Kodai Naraoka. Guang Zu claimed a 21-18, 21-15 victory over his Malaysian opponents, while Shi defeated the world no. 15 with a scoreline of 21-16, 16-21, 21-19. In the Women’s singles section, South Korea’s An Se Young recorded a comfortable 21-16, 21-11 victory over Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong to set up title decider against Indonesia’s Gregoria Tunjung, who secured a hard-fought 18-21, 21-16, 21-14 win over China’s Han Yue in the last-4 stage.

In the men’s doubles, a three set thriller was staged between China’s Liu Yuchen and Ou Xuanyi and Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei. After losing the first set 21-12, Liu and Ou turned their fortunes by pocketing the remaining two sets 23-21, 24-22 to advance to the final, where they will meet Malaysian duo of Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ye Yi. Elsewhere Thailand’s women’s doubles pair of Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakrm Aimsaard booked their place in the final courtesy of defeating South Korean duo of Jeong Na Eun and Kim Hye Jeong 21-19, 21-18 in the semi final clash. The Thai duo will face China’s Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu in the final on Sunday.
