The 2022 Australian Open Badminton tournament kicked off on Tuesday with most of the top Indian shuttlers opting out because of various reasons. Sumeet Verman and Mithun Manjunaht Srikanth were the latest shuttlers to withdraw from the competition and join the likes of former world no. 1 Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen, PV Sindhu and the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankieeddy and Chirag Shetty. Women’s singles players Tanya Hemnath and Anwesha Gowda are the only Indians in the fray in singles and they will begin their tournament on Wednesday.

Meanwhile India will also not have any participants in the Men’s doubles section. In the women’s doubles category, Rutuparna Panda and Swethaaparna Panda and Simran Singhi, Ritika Thaker pair will be in action. R Panda/ S Panda will take on C H Teng and C H Lee of Chinese Taipei while R Thaker/ S Singhi will face R A Rose and M T Sari of Indonesia.
