Despite how fantastic professional wrestling may be, there have been some unfortunate incidents in this business. WWE Hall of Famer Yokozuna is one of the superstars who fans have regrettably seen die far too soon. Throughout some of the 1990s, the former WWE Champion and Royal Rumble victor was promoted as a great star in the company; nevertheless, his career was cut short as his health deteriorated, ultimately leading to a very tragic end. Given that Yokozuna’s passing occurred more than 20 years ago, there may be some admirers who are not quite aware of how and why he went away.

The Britain Tour

Yokozuna, who was 34 years old and on tour in England, was discovered dead in a hotel room on October 23, 2000. This was a tragically early death. The reason of death was first unknown, with many people speculating whether it had been a heart attack. The cause of death, however, was later determined to be pulmonary edema, in which the fluid surrounding his body blocked, causing fluid to accumulate in his lungs, which was further exacerbated by his weight. Yokozuna had made an effort to cut back, but it was too late. His last public appearance was on The Big Breakfast Show, a TV show in the UK, a mere six days before he passed away.

Battling His Weight

In the WWE, Yokozuna adopted a sumo gimmick that involved dressing in traditional garb and carrying a Japanese flag as he entered the arena. Like sumo wrestlers, Yokozuna occasionally tried to bulk up, which necessitated strange diets and frequently unhealthy inclinations. Both Yokozuna and Vader were once chastised by WWE and removed from TV in an effort to improve their physiques, albeit this resulted in them both occasionally sneaking off to eat fast food. Even though at the time there was less knowledge of things like that, it is fair to state that when it reaches that degree it is an addiction and should be treated as such.

Departure From WWE

Yokozuna was advertised as weighing over 500 pounds when he was a WWE wrestler. However, it was claimed that he occasionally weighed much more, potentially as much as 700 pounds. The former champion’s troubles ultimately caused him to leave WWE in 1998 since he was unable to obtain a medical license. In the years before his passing, he struggled with weight concerns.
