WWE has a history of avoiding using certain names or words on television, and we now know that they instructed their crew not to use the moniker Sable. Before being referred to as female superstars, WWE referred to these women as divas. Sunny and Sable were the two biggest diva’s from the middle of the ’90s to the beginning of the ’00s. They were there for the sex appeal even though there were no greats inside the ring. They also had little trouble grabbing the attention of everyone in the arena.
She first sued WWE for sexual harassment and a dangerous work environment after leaving the company in June 1999. She initially requested $110 million, but she reduced the sum and reached an out-of-court settlement with WWE. Four years later, Sable makes an unexpected comeback to the WWE. It appeared as though her tenure in WWE had come to an end in light of the lawsuit and claims. The second time, she first worked with Torrie Wilson and then Vince McMahon. They also shared a cover of Playboy and worked a match at WrestleMania XX together.
Wilson spoke about being instructed not to mention Sable’s name in her Hall of Fame speech during a virtual autograph session. “You’re not even allowed to mention her name,” said Wilson. “I mentioned her name in my Hall of Fame speech and right before they told me, ‘Oh by the way, you’re not allowed to mention her name.’” Then, during a promo on Friday’s SmackDown, Edge made a quick mention of her name. We’ll have to wait and see if Edge experiences any consequences.
She hasn’t been back since 2004 when she left WWE once more. She did wed Brock Lesnar, and “The Beast” said that she is occupied with motherhood. Is WWE going too far by forbidding their employees from using the moniker Sable?
