In order to find a new opponent for his United States championship, Austin Theory organized an invitational. It consisted of two Fatal 4-Way bouts, with the victors moving on to face each other in a singles battle to determine the next top challenger. The two LWO members were therefore set up for a confrontation on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown in New Orleans. Doctors were seen attending to him before revealing that he wouldn’t be able to complete the contest. Escobar was crowned the victor, and he will now challenge Theory for the championship. Escobar took a knee and gave his LWO stablemate, Mysterio, a hug while still making amends.
