After Rey Mysterio won the United States Championship on the most recent SmackDown programme, Triple H recently congratulated him on social media. This week, Austin Theory was set to face off against Santos Escobar, a stablemate of The Master of the 619. But the champion attacked him backstage and tried to break his leg. Escobar was given the go-ahead to compete, but before the contest began, Theory again attacked the hurt leg. As a result, the WWE Hall of Famer took the place of the LWO member.
Austin Theory’s reign as US Champion came to an end after 259 days when Rey Mysterio defeated him by hitting him with the 619 followed by a splash. Rey had not won a singles championship since 2019. Following the contest, Triple H congratulated the new champion and shared a picture of them backstage.
Although Rey Mysterio didn’t look entirely prepared for the title battle, he might show intelligence. Mysterio goes all out when the match starts, attempting a big suplex to pin Theory in the corner. Then Mysterio launched his signature 619, but Theory was able to avoid it. Mysterio decided to use the same maneuver once more to complete the victory.

Mysterio is now the three-time WWE United States Champion thanks to the victory. In 2019, he won the crown twice and held it for just two brief periods of time. The previous time Theory had the title, he defeated Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley at WWE Survivor Series 2022. The Grayson Waller Effect will feature Mysterio on the episode of WWE SmackDown airing on August 18th, according to a later announcement from WWE.
