Brian Girard James, better known as Road Dogg, is a semi-retired American professional wrestler. James is most remembered for his time in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE). From 2002 until 2009, he wrestled as B.G. James for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), and he has also appeared for Smoky Mountain Wrestling, World Championship Wrestling, the United States Wrestling Association, the Catch Wrestling Association, and World Wrestling All-Stars (WWA).

Multiple Championship Winner

In a career spanning more than three decades, Dogg has won countless titles. He rose to prominence in the WWF/E as half of The New Age Outlaws (who subsequently became members of D-Generation X): he and partner Billy Gunn won the WWF World Tag Team Championship and also have held the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship. James also had success in singles competition, becoming a two-time Intercontinental Champion and a one-time Hardcore Champion.

Family of Wrestlers

Following his departure from the WWF in 2001, James became the inaugural WWA World Heavyweight Champion before returning to TNA as a tag team wrestler, where he was a two-time National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Tag Team Champion with Konnan and Ron Killings as the 3 Live Kru under the Freebird Rule. He wrestled on pay-per-view twice for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. James is a second generation wrestler; his father, Bob, and brothers Scott, Brad, and Steve also wrestled. As a member of D-Generation X, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame (Class of 2019).

Road Dogg in WWE

James joined with the World Wrestling Federation at the end of 1994 after defeating Barry Hardy in a dark match on the August 16, 1994 episode of WWF Wrestling Challenge. He was branded as The Roadie, a roadie for “Double J” Jeff Jarrett, an aspiring country artist. He wrestled on multiple pay-per-views and television appearances, but he spent the most of his initial WWF run accompanying Jarrett and interfering in his matches. Jarrett published the song, which he said he wrote himself, in early 1995. The intended angle was to disclose that The Roadie, not Jarrett, had really delivered the vocals on this song, igniting a feud between the two wrestlers. But both the men left WWF/E shortly before completing the angle.

WWE/F Return in 1996

After his return, James became known as “The Road Dogg” Jesse James. Soon after, Rockabilly reverted to his Billy Gunn ring name and chose the moniker “Badd Ass,” while Road Dogg began to grow his hair out and braid it. In addition to these cosmetic alterations, the team’s demeanour became increasingly contentious and antisocial, with the duo eventually being known as the New Age Outlaws after defeating The Legion of Doom for their first Tag Team Championship.

New Age Outlaws to D-Generation X

The Outlaws would continue to feud with the Legion of Doom, as well as the brief-lived tag team of Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie, until joining D-Generation X the night following WrestleMania XIV. On March 26, 2001, James came in Panama City, Florida, for the final WCW Monday Nitro taping in order to negotiate a return to World Championship Wrestling, only to discover that the company had been acquired by the WWF, therefore shutting out both businesses as job prospects.

Why was Road Dogg released from WWE?

WWE began the new year with an unexpected wave of layoffs. In the process, they released WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg. The former tag team champion left as SmackDown Live producer, citing creative disagreements with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. This came as a surprise because Road Dogg has been with WWE for a long time. Dogg has done it everything in the WWE arena, from being Jeff Jarrett’s sidekick to invading WCW. Road Dogg has a good relationship with Triple H and Shawn Michaels since he was a member of the legendary group ‘Degeneration X.’ But none of that mattered because Vince dismissed the Hall of Famer.

Who is Road Dogg’s wife?

Tracy Conant  James is the wife of Road Dogg. She is from Southhaven, Mississippi. She currently resides in Jay, Florida, with her husband and children. Wonda Faye Raines Conant, a casino supervisor in Tunica, Mississippi, died in February 2020. The pair owns the James Gang Farm, which James decorates. Her dogs’ names are Dutchess and Tyson, Diamond, Bella Jet, and Otis. Dutchess passed away on May of 2019. They also have a pig named Petunia on their property. Road Dogg and James have been married for 25 years.
