José Alberto Rodríguez Chucuan (born 25 May 1977, San Luis Potosí City, San Luis Potosí, Mexico) is a Mexican-American professional wrestler, professional wrestling promoter, sports commentator, and mixed martial artist best known for his time in the WWE under his in-ring name Alberto Del Rio and Impact Wrestling under the ring name Alberto El Patrón. He is currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship as a commentator. Before working for WWE, Rodríguez used the name Dos Caras Jr. as both a mixed martial artist and luchador in mostly Mexico and Japan, achieving success in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) by winning the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship once.

History maker

Rodríguez signed with WWE in 2009 and made his debut on their main roster the following year as Alberto Del Rio. He has the distinction of becoming the first Mexican-born world champion in WWE history after he won the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship. He also won the 2011 Royal Rumble and the 2011 Money in the Bank ladder match, making him the only wrestler from the company to win both in the same calendar year. Rodríguez was fired from WWE in 2014 due to unprofessional conduct after he got into an altercation with an employee who cracked a racist joke.

Stint with other promotions

He then wrestled as Alberto El Patrón in other promotions such as Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Ring of Honor, Lucha Underground, Japanese and Puerto Rican promotions, and various United States independent promotions. In AAA, he won the AAA Mega Championship once. He returned to WWE in 2015, winning the United States Championship twice, before departing again in 2016. He then signed with Impact Wrestling and won the Impact World Championship title at Slammiversary XV. In professional wrestling, he is the only man in history to have been WWE, (WWE) World Heavyweight, Impact World, GFW Global, AAA Mega, and CMLL World Heavyweight Champion.

Del Rio signed a contract with WWE in 2009 and was thrust into the spotlight immediately. He had his first match against Rey Mysterio and came out victorious. He then went on to have fights with almost all the top superstars. 2011 was probably the best year in his wrestling career as he went on to win the Royal Rumble and also the Money in the Bank ladder match. He then cashed in his contract against CM Punk at Summerslam to become the first Mexican to ever win the WWE Championship and in the process shock the entire WWE universe.

Various feuds

In 2012, Del Rio started a feud with Sheamus for the World Heavyweight Championship but was not very successful. Then in January 2013, Del Rio defeated the Big Show and won the World Championship much to the crowd’s pleasure. He then lost the title to Dolph Ziggler who cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to become champion. In 2014, Del Rio was fired from the WWE for unprofessional conduct but he made his return in 2015 at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view and defeated John Cena to win the United States Championship. He later joined Sheamus, Wade Barrett and Rusev to form a faction called the League of Nations.

Del Rio was married to Angela Velkei from 2012 to 2016 and they have three children together and they lived in San Antonio, Texas. Velkei filed for divorce from him in June 2016 and stated that the marriage ended the previous month due to adultery. Alberto, however, claimed that the marriage ended in June 2015. In 2016, Del Rio got engaged to one of his fellow wrestlers named Paige. They split up in late 2017. On 14 July 2021, during an interview, Rodriguez made threats to expose Paige for previous arrests and also made claims of domestic violence against her.
