He is currently signed to AEW as a wrestler and Cage Fury Fighting Championships as a commentator. Punk was born in Chicago, the son of a housewife and an engineer. He has five siblings. He attended Lockport Township High School. His father struggled with alcoholism, which inspired him to follow a straight edge lifestyle from an early age; his mother suffered from bipolar disorder, causing him to become estranged from her.

He signed with World Wrestling Entertainment in 2005 and won the WWE Championship twice, the World Heavyweight Championship three times, and the Intercontinental Championship and the ECW World Heavyweight Championship once each. The Straight Edge superstar also won the World Tag Team Championship, becoming WWE’s 19th Triple Crown Champion and in the process became the fastest wrestler to achieve this feat, in 203 days.

Punk is also the only back-to-back Money in the Bank winner and headlined several WWE pay-per-view events, won Superstar of the Year at the 2011 Slammy Awards, and was voted Wrestler of the Year in 2011 and 2012 by readers of Pro Wrestling Illustrated. After retiring from professional wrestling, Punk pursued a career as a mixed martial artist, and he signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship where he did not have much success. He has since signed with AEW.

CM Punk in WWE

CM Punk made his WWE debut in 2006 in ECW. He started with a six-month unbeaten streak which finally ended when he lost to Hardcore Holly. Punk was drafted to RAW during the 2008 WWE draft. He soon became popular when he won the World Championship. He was champion until September 7, when he was attacked by Legacy during which he suffered a head injury. His title was forfeited as he could not participate in the match and was succeeded by Chris Jericho as champion.

Punk defeated John Cena to become the WWE champion. However, he lost the title minutes later to Alberto Del Rio, who cashed in his Money in the Bank contract. On October 31, 2011, he won a match against Del Rio at Survivor Series. He then regained the WWE Championship on November 20.

On December 5, 2012, Punk became the longest-reigning WWE champion in 25 years. He retained his title for 381 days, surpassing John Cena’s record reign of 380 days. He lost the WWE title to The Rock at the 2013 Royal Rumble, thus putting an end to his 434 days reign. In 2013, Punk took on The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 but lost.  He quit the company without notice and did not appear on a couple of episodes of RAW. Due to these actions of his, he was removed from the main roster on July 15, 2014.
