The WWE Royal Rumble is around the corner and a surprise participant’s name is doing the round for the women’s match: Kairi Sane.

There’s no news on whether WWE will bring Sane back to the US for Saturday’s main event. But a report in Fightful Select claims that she’s been spoken about a lot lately.

Sane’s WWE contract is slated to end in February, according to reports earlier this month. Her contract was apparently up for renewal and she wanted to return to wrestling.

However, she is not keen to reside in the United States. It was also mentioned that owing to COVID-19, a back-and-forth arrangement was not conceivable.

Sane has been linked with a move to Stardom in Japan now that her contract with WWE has officially expired.

She was reportedly approached by Stardom to perform a special attraction match in 2021, but WWE refused.

Sane, who hinted at a possible comeback to the ring on Twitter in December, moved back to Japan in 2020 to be with her new husband but continued to work for WWE as an ambassador in the nation.

In addition, she provided Japanese commentary for WWE pay-per-view events. She won the 2017 Mae Young Classic after signing a three-year agreement with WWE in March 2017.

She last competed for WWE in July 2020, and she announced her return to Japan shortly after. Sane was a one-time WWE NXT Women’s Champion and a one-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion.

WWE Royal Rumble 2022 – the card so far

The Royal Rumble has always been one of the biggest pay-per-views for the organization. Recent years have seen many former WWE stars return in the Royal Rumble.

As Royal Rumble is one of the biggest attractions of the company, the promotion behind it is huge as always.

The most eagerly awaited match of the card so far is the one between Brock Lesnar vs Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship.

Both are big men who have experienced success aplenty in both the MMA and wrestling world. Lesnar was a champion and mega-draw in the UFC, whereas Lashley tasted plenty of success in Bellator.

However, the two have never faced off until now – despite Lashley lobbying for the match for years.

There’s also the WWE Universal championship match between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, as well as the two Royal Rumble matches for the men and women.
