The Japanese women have been flying high in the competition, winning the first eight matches on the bounce. However, they were stunned by a struggling Netherlands team in the last match. Hence, they would be looking for a swift reply when they face the host nation in the upcoming clash.
The Japanese side are currently placed second in the table, gathering 24 points from nine matches. They have been simply unstoppable until their last match when the Dutch side found a way to edge past them 3-2. They will be up against the host nation next. However, it will be difficult to predict what Turkey will turn up on the day due to their inconsistent results. They are placed 6th in the table, having managed 19 points from 10 games. Turkey have won six and lost four times till now.

In the preliminary round, 16 women’s teams will compete in pools of 8 teams under the revised format. During the pool stage, each team plays 12 matches. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host – Turkey – entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.
