The Thailand women are currently occupying eight spot, having managed 15 points from nine matches. They won four of the opening five games and their only defeat then came against Belgium. However, they lost three games successively after that. Hence, the victory over South Korea on Wednesday will be a massive boost for them. Meanwhile, Dominican Republic are eleventh in the standings, with nine points from nine games. They lost the last game to Bulgaria and will be eager to bounce back from that setback.

In the preliminary round, 16 women’s teams will compete in pools of 8 teams under the revised format. During the pool stage, each team plays 12 matches. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host – Turkey – entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.
