Serbia will be keen to continue their giant-killing act when they face Brazil in the semifinals of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League on Saturday. The Europeans pulled off a massive upset against the United States of America in the quarterfinal stage of the competition. The USA were the in-form side in the tournament and one of the clear favourites to lift the trophy, however, Serbia had other ideas during their last-8 meeting. Now their reward is a match-up against another in-form side in Brazil on Saturday.

In the quarterfinals, the South American side defeated Japan 3-1 to reach the last four. On paper, they should be the favourites on Saturday, however, Serbia will be high on confidence following their upset 3-2 win in the last round against the USA. The Europeans had finished sixth in the table, having managed 23 points from 12 games. They won eight and lost four times throughout the competition.

In the preliminary round, 16 women’s teams will compete in pools of 8 teams under the revised format. During the pool stage, each team plays 12 matches. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The Finals will include the seven strongest teams, with the finals host – Turkey – entering the knockout round as the top-placed team. It will consist of eight matches in total – four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and bronze and gold medal matches.
