The 2023 Men's European Volleyball Championship will be the 33rd edition of the Men's European Volleyball Championship, organised by CEV.
The 2023 Men’s European Volleyball Championship will be the 33rd edition of the Men’s European Volleyball Championship, organised by Europe’s governing volleyball body, CEV. For the third time, the EuroVolley will be held in four countries: Italy, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Israel. The top three teams of the tournament qualified for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship as the CEV representative. The only exception was Italy who had already qualified as the current World champion.
Thursday will see Poland take on Czechia in the preliminary round of the CEV Men’s European Volleyball 2023. Heading into Thursday’s match, Poland will square off against Czechia in North Macedonia. In the world rankings, Poland is currently the World No. 1. In contrast, Czechia is in the twenty-first position. Poland has been one of the powerhouses of World volleyball from Europe. Likewise, Czechia has also come up with impressive performances in recent matches. Poland in particular is coming after winning the Nations League finals. Nevertheless, the fortunes of the Czechs might change this time around. Both teams would like to kickstart their campaign with a win.
The drawing of lots was combined with a seeding of National Federations and performed. The four organizers of the tournament were seeded in the Preliminary pools. However, the finalists from the previous edition were drawn into different Preliminary pools. This ensured that the top teams would be separated from competing in the same groups. The organizers could select one team to join their pools. On the other hand, the 16 remaining teams were seeded in descending order in the number of cups which equals the number of Preliminary pools. The pointing system of the Men’s Euro Volleyball 2023 is a little different. For a 3-0 or 3-1 win the winner gets 3 points while the loser gets 0 points. However, in case of a 3-2 win, the winner will get 2 points while the loser will get 1 point. This has ensured an equitable distribution of points.
