The tournament which is hosted in the Netherlands and Poland this year will take place from 23rd September to 15th October.
The wait is finally over as the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022 is all set to kick off on Friday. Volleyball fans are in for a major treat over the next couple of weeks, with a lot of action-packed encounters awaiting them. The tournament which is hosted in the Netherlands and Poland this year will take place from 23rd September to 15th October. This will be the second successive tournament which will be hosted in Poland. The FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship was also recently held in their country along with Slovenia.
The Women’s World Championship will start with co-hosts Poland taking on Croatia in Pool B on Friday. The clash between the two European nations will be an intriguing one for various reasons. The Polish women’s team would have taken a lot of confidence from the manner in which the men’s side reached the World Championship final earlier this month. Hence, the women’s team will also be eager to go deep into the competition. On the other hand, Croatia will compete in the World Championship finals for the first time since managing a 17th place finish in 2010. Hence, they will be eager to make a mark of their own in the current edition.

The 24-team tournament will run from September 23 through October 15. The teams are split up into four groups of six teams each, and they compete in a round-robin format. Each pool’s top four teams advance to the second round and the 16 teams are divided into two pools of eight nations. The countries coming from the same first-round pool only play against opponents from a different first-round pool. Each pool’s top four teams compete in a quarterfinal round, with the winners moving on to the semifinals. The World Championship trophy will be up for grabs for the last-four victorious teams, while the third-place match pits the losers against each other.
