The fifth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League began its action yesterday. The Nations League is a yearly competition for international volleyball players. The tournament will take place from May 30 to July 16, 2023. The decisive round will be held in Arlington, Texas, in the United States, at College Park Centre. Four volleyball confederations’ top 16 nations will compete in the VNL). It is one of the leading international indoor competitions put on by the FIVB, the organisation that governs the sport. There were some minor changes post which the final roster for the tournament was made. The changes resulted from the 2022 Nations League and the 2022 Challenger Cup. Australia was replaced by debutants Cuba in this edition.

Saturday will see the Netherlands and Italy at the loggerheads in round 2. The Dutch side languishes in the lower half of the table placed in the fourteenth position while Italy is ranked ninth. Netherlands and Italy last met in the last year’s FIVB Nations League. In the last encounter, the Italians thrashed their opponent. Italy won that match in straight sets (3-0). This time however a lot is at stake and the Netherlands will look to save itself from the danger zone and climb up from its current standing. On the other hand, the Italians will look to reclaim the top spot and defend it’s title.
