The fifth iteration of the FIVB Men’s Nations League for Volleyball will take place in 2023. An annual male volleyball competition takes place internationally. The contest will take place in June and July. The Polish city of Gdansk’s Ergo Arena will host the decisive match. However, both the final list of participating nations and the overall format are unchanged. But there have been a few small adjustments made to the final participant list. Due to the results of the 2022 Nations League and Challenger Cup, Australia was replaced in this edition by Cuba’s rookies.
In the FIVB Volleyball Nations League 2022 match, the Chinese men’s volleyball team was defeated by the Netherlands in three sets (29-27, 25-12, and 25-13). In the opening set, China displayed spirited play, rallying from a 22-17 deficit to tie the score at 24-24, but the Netherlands won the match. Zhang Jingyin scored nine points in the first set, making him China’s attack captain. The next two sets were in control of the Dutch team, which was led to victory by captain Nimir Abdel-Aziz, who had a game-high 30 points. The Dutch team was coached by Italian Roberto Piazza. Thijs Te Horst scored 14 points to lead the winners, while Zhang Guanhua and Zhang Jingyin did their best to contribute 12 points each.
The play’s structure is unchanged from the earlier version. By that, 16 men’s teams will compete in eight-team pools during the pool phase. Each team plays 12 games during the pool stage. The knockout round of the tournament will then feature eight teams. These 8 teams will advance directly to the knockout stage of the finals. There will then be 8 matches in the knockout phase: 4 quarterfinals, 2 semifinals, and the bronze and gold medal matches.
The top-ranked team will face the eighth-ranked team in the quarterfinals, followed by the second-ranked team playing the seventh-ranked team, the third-ranked team playing the sixth-ranked team, and the fourth-ranked team playing the fifth-ranked team. A guaranteed spot in the Final round will go to the national team of the event’s host country. The host nation will play as the eighth seed if they finish outside of the top eight in the preliminary round.
