The 2023 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League will be the fifth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League. The Nations League is an annual Women’s international volleyball tournament. The competition will be held between 30 May to 16 July 2023. The final round will take place at College Park Center, Arlington, Texas, United States. The Women’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) will feature the top 16 nations from four confederations. It is one of the prestigious international indoor tournaments organised by the FIVB which is the sport’s governing body.

Tuesday’s action will see Japan lock horns in a mouth-watering clash against the Dominican Republic in Round 1 of the tournament. Japan is currently ranked 6th place while the Dominican Republic is placed three places down at the 9th position. The last encounter between the two nations ended in the defeat of the Dominican Republic. However, the Dominicans will be putting that defeat out of their mind and will look to start their campaign with a win.  

What is the format of the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League?

The preliminary round of the VNL 2023 women’s competition is split into three weekly phases. All 16 teams are divided into two pools, and each week the teams in the pools are rearranged. At the conclusion of the three weeks, the top eight teams in the standings will advance to the final round.  During the pool stage, each team plays 12 matches. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s final knockout round. The draw for the knockout stages will be determined by the teams’ rankings after the completion of the preliminary round. The preliminary stages will be conducted in the following places: Antalya, Nagoya, Hong Kong, Brasilia, Suwon and Bangkok. Preliminary rounds will continue up to the 2nd of July post which the knockout matches will begin.
