Kolkata Thunderbolts will take on Ahmedabad Defenders in a mouth-watering RuPay Prime Volleyball League powered by A23 contest on Thursday. This pulsating fixture between the two sides in the table will hold a lot of significance despite both teams having already booked their places in the semifinals. This will be a direct battle between the two most in-form teams in the league to secure the top spot in the table before the playoffs. Hence, they would very much like to assert their dominance before the knockout games begin.
It is to be noted that Kolkata Thunderbolts had lifted the title last year after overcoming Ahmedabad Defenders 15-13, 15-10, 15-12 in the final. These two clubs have once again maintained that dominance to sit at the top two positions so far this season. As things stand, the Defenders have 11 points from six matches to be placed first, while the Thunderbolts are sitting second in the table with 10 points from the same number of games as their opponent. They both have won five games each and lost once till now in the second season.
Ahead of the much-anticipated match, Ahmedabad Defenders’ attacker Angamuthu, as per a release, said, “We have been preparing well for the match. Kolkata is a strong team and we are waiting to do well against them.” Then he spoke about the importance of this game by adding, “Yeah, it’s pretty important to finish strongly on top because the mentality will make a huge impact in the finals. So, we would want to finish on top of the table.”

On the other hand, Kolkata Thunderbolts skipper Ashwal Rai also spoke about the importance of finishing the league phase on a high. He also gave a glimpse about the strategies in place for their opponent. “We look to finish on a high in our last league game against the Ahmedabad Defenders. We have our strategy in place and we will try and execute it during the game,” he added.
“We have played them in last year’s final but now their team has changed and we will change our strategy accordingly after analysing their performances and how their players have played. The team has played exceptionally. I am impressed with how Anush and Vinit have played. We are always looking to improve our game, and we hope to continue the same in the final stages of the tournament,” he stated.

The Prime Volleyball League 2023, which is held from February 4 to March 5, will consist of 31 matches. The games commence at 7pm. On the double header days, the second match begins at 9:30pm. The Season 2 will be broadcast exclusively by Sony Sports Network across Sony Sports Ten 1, Sony Sports Ten 3 and Sony Sports Ten 4. It can also be livestreamed on SonyLIV. Besides, the 2nd edition of the PVL will be streamed globally on Volleyball World across all countries (except the Indian Subcontinent).
