The defending silver medallists in both men’s and women’s categories in beach volleyball marched on to victories in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Canada men’s team and Australia women’s side who came second four years ago in Gold Coast won their respective matches. They were among the other interesting results that were produced on Tuesday. Besides six more matches will take place on Thursday when the final action in the group phase will conclude.
In the men’s section, Canada got the better of St Kitts & Nevis 2-0 before the Gambia edged out Sri Lanka 2-1 later in the day. In the women’s section, the standout result was seeing Australian women beat Trinidad & Tobago 2-0. Four years ago in Gold Coast, Australian men won the gold beating Canada in the final, while the Canadian women got the better of the Aussies to clinch the gold medal. Meanwhile, there will be two men’s matches taking place on Thursday, with Canada facing Gambia and St Kitts & Nevis will be playing Sri Lanka.

A total of 12 men’s and women’s teams will participate in the beach volleyball competition that will take place from 30th July to 7th August. The men’s and women’s sections will each have three pools with four teams in them. The knockout matches start on the fifth of August with the quarterfinals, the next day will be the semifinals and the medal matches will happen on the seventh of August (Sunday). Each match is played with a best of three sets. The first two sets are played to 21 points, and the third set is played to 15 points. The first team to reach 21 points – or 15 points – with a two-point advantage wins the set.
