On the second day of the men’s beach volleyball event in the Commonwealth Games, Birmingham, two matches will be taking place. This follows the four matches that will happen on an opening day which will see hosts England taking on Tuvalu, Rwanda facing South Africa, New Zealand playing Cyprus and finally gold medal winners Australia taking on the Maldives. This will be the second edition of the competition after beach volleyball made its debut four years ago in Gold Coast, Australia.
There are two games on Day 2, which will begin with Canada facing Sri Lanka. The Canadian men had to settle for silver four years ago when they lost to then hosts Australia. However, in the women’s section, Canadian women clinched the gold medal. Meanwhile, the second match on Sunday will be between the Gambia and St Kitts & Nevis. With two interesting matches happening, beach volleyball fans have every reason to get excited about the day’s action.

The men’s and women’s sections will each have three pools with four teams in them. The knockout matches start on the fifth of August with the quarterfinals, the next day will be the semifinals and the medal matches will happen on the seventh of August (Sunday). Each match is played with a best of three sets. The first two sets are played to 21 points, and the third set is played to 15 points. The first team to reach 21 points – or 15 points – with a two-point advantage wins the set.
