The Day 2 of the Women’s Beach Volleyball event will be jam-packed with plenty of entertainment, as four matches are scheduled to take place on Sunday. It will follow the two matches that will take place on Day 1 of the competition with gold medal winners Canada facing Ghana and New Zealand taking on Kenya. The beach volleyball competition which will take place from 30th July to 7th August will only be the second time it will be a part of the Commonwealth Games.
It was four years ago when beach volleyball made its debut in Commonwealth Games. Back then, Canada women’s team won gold and the hosts Australia had to settle for silver in Gold Coast. On Sunday, the proceedings will start with Australia taking on Sri Lanka and Vanuatu facing Scotland. Later, hosts England will kickstart their preparations against the Solomon Islands, while Cyprus will take on Trinidad & Tobago. Beach volleyball fans will have a lot of matches to look forward to on Day 2 of the competition.
A total of 12 men’s and women’s teams will participate in the beach volleyball competition that will take place from 30th July to 7th August. The men’s and women’s sections will each have three pools with four teams in them. The knockout matches start on the fifth of August with the quarterfinals, the next day will be the semifinals and the medal matches will happen on the seventh of August (Sunday). Each match is played with a best of three sets. The first two sets are played to 21 points, and the third set is played to 15 points. The first team to reach 21 points – or 15 points – with a two-point advantage wins the set.
