On Saturday, the third round of the 2022 US Open will feature Holger Rune of Denmark as the No. 28 seed against Cameron Norrie of Britain.

The World No. 9 beat Benoit Paire 6-0, 7-6 (7-1), and 6-0 to start his season. The seventh seed Cameron Norrie struggled in the second round after defeating Benoit Paire rather easily in the first. He eventually advanced with a victory over Joao Sousa in straight sets, but it took him two hours and 27 minutes to do it. In the first set, both players traded breaks before Norrie broke again late in the set to take the lead, one set to love. The British player defeated Sousa in the second set’s third game, saving a break point for the very next game. He won the last game and took a two sets advantage after saving two more break points there. Norrie saved a set point in the third set as she attempted to win sets at 5-6. He ultimately won the tiebreak to win the set, and he went on to win the match 6-4, 6-4, 7-6. (7-4). Norrie has never advanced past the third round of a major tournament before this year’s Wimbledon, where he made his first-ever Grand Slam semifinal. His greatest performance at the U.S. Open came in the third round in 2020, and after matching it this year, he will be anxious to advance further. And there is a considerable likelihood of that happening considering his strong performance this year.
This year, Holger Rune has had a significant impact. The 19-year-old won his first championship in Munich, advanced to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, and will now make his U.S. Open third round debut. When John Isner, his opponent from the second round, withdrew from the competition due to a wrist injury, the Danish golfer received a free ticket into the round of 32. A day before his planned second-round match, the American, who had a strong start against Federico Delbonis, gave the walkover. Rune, who is ranked No. 33 in the world, beat Germany’s Peter Gojowczyk in straight sets to win the tournament opener. In two hours and 32 minutes, he defeated Gojowczyk 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) by saving all six break points and making 3 of 14 conversions.
Cameron Norrie and Holger Rune are scheduled to face each other on Saturday, September 3 in the round of 16 of the 2022 US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the season began on August 29 and will go on until September 11.
