After a comfortable opening round victory, Daniil Medvedev will now shift his focus to Arthur Rinderknech in the second round of the 2022 US Open. Medvedev was up against home favourite Stefan Kozlov in the first round and won in straight sets. The score at the end of the match was 6-2, 6-4, 6-0 with the Russian hitting 10 aces and converting eight out of 16 break points. “I am pleased to win. Not easy conditions. Pretty hot and humid here,” Medvedev said in his on-court interview. “I was sweating a lot but I thought there were some good points. I managed to be pretty solid and I thought the serve was key today. I am happy to go through to the second round.”
Rinderknech was up against compatriot Quentin Halys in the first round and after a hard fought battle, came out on top. The score at the end of the match was 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-2. Rinderknech recorded 15 aces in the match and managed to convert five out of 14 break points. Although his chances against the top seed seem slim, he Frenchman will certainly not go down without a fight.
Daniil Medvedev and Arthur Rinderknech are scheduled to face each other on Wednesday, August 31 in the second round of the 2022 US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the season began on August 29 and will go on until September 11.
