On Thursday, the Russian Karen Khachanov will play the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka in the third round of the 2022 ATP Citi Open.

The seventh seed, who had a bye in the first round Karen Khachanov overcame Dominik Koepfer in the second round after rallying from a set down to avoid an early departure. Twice rallied from breaks down in the opening set but fell to the German left-hander in the tiebreak. With the German taking the lead in the eighth game after the Russian had lost the first set, the Russian had gone up a break early in the second. Before winning the set, Khachanov broke again in the eleventh games. Early on in the third set, he gained a break as well, and he maintained his lead throughout the rest of the match to prevail 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 6-4 in two hours and 46 minutes. The victory marked the season’s 25th triumph for the World No. 24. Khachanov, an Adelaide-1 finalist at the beginning of the year, has advanced seven events this season, including two semifinal performances in Dubai and Belgrade.
World No. 98 Yoshihito Nishioka has had difficulty on the tour for the majority of this season, but he finally appears to be regaining his form. The 11th seed Alex de Minaur was defeated by the Japanese left-hander in a three-set match in the second round after the player surprised Jenson Brooksby in the first round. Nishioka won the match 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 in two hours and forty-five minutes by dominating the third set. In the opening round, the World No. 98 defeated Brooksby 6-4, 6-3. Nishioka’s season record now sits at 7-10 thanks to the two victories, while Washington’s record is now 5-4. Nishioka is participating in the Round of 16 in Washington for the second time. After making it that far in Acapulco in February, he hopes to go to the quarterfinals for the first time in the tournament and twice this season.
Karen Khachanov and Yoshihito Nishioka will face each other in the third round of the 2022 Citi open on Thursday, August 4. The ATP 500 competition is scheduled to start from August 1 and end on August 7 this year.
The 2022 Citi Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 1 and conclude on August 8 this year.
