In the second round of the 2022 US Open on Thursday, Poland's Hubert Hurkacz, the eighth seed, faces up against Belarus' Ilya Ivashka.
By defeating Oscar Otte in straight sets, Hubert Hurkacz got off to a strong start in the US Open. It’s a positive outcome because Hurkacz can also succeed in such quick circumstances as can the German. Hurkacz established early match control with strong serving and maintained it with 18 aces. He was rather adept at avoiding any simple mistakes and occasionally turned to net play to break up the flow. It was successful because he advanced to the next round in straight sets. Hurkacz may be a risky player in New York, especially following a few confidence-boosting victories beforehand. His 18-8 record on the surface this year is hardly surprising because he grew up playing on North American hard courts. The motivation is enormous because he has never gotten past the second round of the US Open.
Ilya Ivashka took more than an hour to begin playing the calibre of tennis to which he is able. With his serve and volley performance, Querrey gave him quite a challenge, winning the first set and breaking him in the second. The third set break, which was close and which Querrey was initially closer to winning, was won by the Belarusian after the latter was able to prevail in the second set. The aforementioned comeback was continued in the decisive set. Although it was a good victory, Ivashka and his tactics were made clear. He will play against someone who performs all of Querrey’s actions but better, and that could be troublesome. The H2H clearly shows that Hurkacz has a strategy for playing Ivashka.
Hubert Hurkacz and Ilya Ivashka are scheduled to face each other on Friday, September 2 in the second round of the 2022 US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the season began on August 29 and will go on until September 11.
