The Djokovic/Berrettini pair will take on de Minaur and Sock on Saturday, September 24 in the fourth doubles match of the 2022 Laver Cup.
By the time this match begins, Novak Djokovic and Matteo Berrettini will know where they stand in the overall standings, and given the way things have gone thus far, this could be a very close edition of the tournament. With the first three matches on day two ending at two points apiece, and Djokovic returning after two months in his match against Frances Tiafoe, Berrettini facing Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Cameron Norrie facing Taylor Fritz, it could all come down to this doubles match. And it remains to be seen whether Djokovic can improve his game by partnering with someone he has never done before, Particularly against one of the opponents who has developed into a doubles specialist.
Although their doubles play can hardly be blamed for this, Team World has never won the Laver Cup before. Over the course of the tournament’s five iterations, Team World has triumphed in nine of the 13 doubles matches, including yesterday’s victory by Sock and France Tiafoe over Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. And Jack Sock, who participated in eight of those victories, has been the foundation of their doubles performance. Sock and Alex de Minaur have never collaborated at the Laver Cup, but Sock will be confident enough to take on this Team Europe pairing even if it means going up against the strength of Djokovic and Berrettini.
