On Tuesday, the first round of the 2022 ATP Citi Open will feature Jenson Brooksby, the 43rd-ranked player in the world, facing Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan.
In Atlanta last week, Jenson Brooksby‘s bid to win his first ATP title fell short for the third time in his brief professional career. Although he started the title match against Alex de Minaur as the favourite and looked excellent the entire week, he was only able to win six games, 3-6 3-6. Although the American teenager lacked confidence, struggled on clay and grass over the past four months, and did not play to his full capacity since the Miami Masters in March, it was still a highly successful campaign (2022). World #37 has experienced tremendous success thus far in his early career on American soil, and he even made it to the semifinal in Washington during his first season in 2021, defeating players like Frances Tiafoe and Felix Auger Aliassime before facing eventual champion Jannik Sinner.
Yoshihito Nishioka dropped a level and competed in a few Challenger events last month in an effort to win some races, strengthen his form, and gain confidence. He made it to the semifinal of the Porto Challenger and the quarterfinal of the Rome Challenger, but those finishes weren’t good enough for him because he often performs much better in Challengers. The 2022 Cleveland Challenger runner-up and champion of the Columbus Challenger is now on a six-match losing streak on the main tour and hasn’t triumphed in a main-draw match at this level since the Miami Open in March.
Jenson Brooksby and Yoshihito Nishioka will face each other in the first round of the 2022 Citi open on Tuesday, August 2. The ATP 500 competition is scheduled to start from August 1 and end on August 7 this year.
