Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jack Draper are scheduled to face each other on Wednesday, August 31 in the second round of the 2022 US Open.
Sixth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated a determined Alexander Ritschard in a four-set first-round match on Monday. Auger-Aliassime, who reached the semifinals in Flushing Meadows last year, saved 10 of the 12 break points he faced and converted half of the eight he held to win 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The three-hour-and-five-minute baseline battle saw the World No. 186 ask a few tough questions of the World No. 8, but the 2016 U.S. Open boys’ champion raised his game at key moments to come out on top. The 22-year-old hit 38 winners and 13 aces and won 76% of his points on his first serve.
Jack Draper had a fantastic start to the competition as he eliminated Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets on Monday. The 20-year-old British player, making his U.S. Open debut, used all five of his break points to win the match 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 in two hours and one minute. Draper saved three break points in the following game to take the first set after obtaining the only break of the first set in the seventh game. In the second set, he maintained his superiority, breaking the Finn three times while only being broken once to take a 2-0 lead.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jack Draper are scheduled to face each other on Wednesday, August 31 in the second round of the 2022 US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the season began on August 29 and will go on until September 11.
