On Saturday, the third round of the 2022 US Open will feature Carlos Alcaraz of Spain taking on Jenson Brooksby of the United States.
With a victory over Federico Coria of Argentina on Thursday in straight sets, Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open. The 19-year-old Spaniard breezed through the first two sets, but she had to fight through the third seed to finally end the Argentine’s resistance and achieve a 6-2, 6-1, 7-5 victory in two hours and ten minutes. The World No. 4 struggled to win the opening two sets against another Argentine, Sebastian Baez, after reaching the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open on his debut last year. After just two games of the third set, the latter eventually had to quit due to an injury, although Alcaraz needed two hours and thirty minutes to win his first set 7-5, 7-5, 2-0. (ret). Alcaraz is 46-9 thus far this year and has taken home four championships from six finals. In the third round, he will strive to maintain his focus as he looks to make another significant run in New York.
American Jenson Brooksby defeated Borna Coric in straight sets in the second round of the Cincinnati Open, snapping his seven-match winning run. Brooksby defended seven out of seven break points in the third set, including three in the opening game. Seven break points were also available to him, and he used two of them to secure a 6-4, 7-6 (12-10), and 6-1 triumph. The 21-year-victory old’s comes after a strong showing in the first round. In just one hour and fifteen minutes against Dusan Lajovic, he had jumped out to a 6-2, 6-0, 3-0 lead. The American, who is ranked No. 43, needs one more victory to match his best Grand Slam showing from the U.S. Open the previous year.
