On Saturday, the team of Sreeja Akula and Reeth Tennison beat the team of Natalie Cummings and Chelsea Edghill 3-0. In the singles category Manika Batra kept her 100% record intact with a fine 3-0 win over Thuraia Thomas. The other singles winner for India was Reeth Tennison who beat Chelsea Edghill 3-0.
In the second qualifying round, India were drawn against Fiji and once again, the women in blue recorded a 3-0 triumph. Batra and Akula were involved in singles action yet again as they defeated Carolyn Li ad Grace Rosi Yee respectively. Both players won by a score of 3-0. The doubles pair of Diya Parag Chitale and Akula also managed to earn a 3-0 victory against the Fiji pair of Touea Titana and Grace Rosi Yee.

The Indian Women’s Table Tennis team will take on Malaysia on Saturday, July 30, in the quarter-final round of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The match is scheduled to start somewhere between 8:30 pm IST.
The Commonwealth Games return to England as Birmingham plays host to the event after London in 1934 and Manchester in 2002. This edition is expected have 72 nations and around 6,600 athletes from all around the world. India will be sending a 322-member squad for Commonwealth Games. Table Tennis has been part of the Commonwealth Games as an optional sport since 2002 and the Indian team is fielding a strong team for the event.
This includes the Men’s and Women’s table tennis teams, where Manika Batra created history in 2018 winning Gold in Australia. She became the the first Indian woman table tennis player to win an individual gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. In the men’s category, Sharath Kamal won the bronze medal. The Indian table tennis contingent finished the edition with a total of eight medals.
