Kaylee Rochelle McKeown, popularly known as Kaylee McKeown, is a swimmer who represents Australia in competitive swimming. McKeown came home from the Tokyo Olympic Games as a triple Olympic gold medalist, having won three gold medals and one bronze medal in her inaugural Games. Kaylee’s remarkable meet began with a gold medal and Olympic record in the 100m backstroke. She then followed it up with gold medals in the 200m backstroke and 4x100m medley relay. The 4x100m mixed medley relay saw Kaylee win a bronze medal as well.

Kaylee made her Dolphins debut at the 2017 FINA World Championships. As a 15-year-old, she finished fourth in the 200m backstroke and set a new Junior World Record. Her first senior international medal occurred in 2019 at the FINA World Championships. There, she won the silver in the 200m backstroke and 4x100m medley events.  Kaylee clinched three silver medals and a gold medal in the women’s 200m backstroke at the 2022 FINA World Championships. Kaylee added four gold, one silver, and one bronze medals from the 2022 Commonwealth Games to her already impressive haul. She won the women’s 100- and 200-meter backstroke events and set a new 200-meter Commonwealth Games record, certifying herself as one of the top female swimmers in the world.

McKeown’s meteoric rise confirms her position as one of the world swimming’s unquestionable superstars. At the Olympic trials, Kaylee broke the world record in the 100-meter backstroke with a lightning-quick time of 57.45 seconds. This made her the only swimmer from Australia or the US to do so. The swimmer, who was then based on the Sunshine Coast, was in great shape going into the Games, despite the disruption of the 2020 international season due to COVID-19. Kaylee achieved three personal bests at the Queensland Virtual Championships. In the short course competition, she achieved a new world record in the 200-meter backstroke (1:58.94). Kaylee beat it by nearly a half-second. At the same event, McKeown ran the second-fastest 200-meter individual medley time (2:03.68), and she also set a personal record in the 100-meter back (55.68) to become the overall best performer.
