The current world champion in the 200- and 400-meter individual medleys, Leon Marchand, will compete at the 2023 World Championships later

Leon Marchand broke a record yet again on another day. The French swimmer is occasionally demonstrating that he has a good chance of winning the title of the next important thing in swimming. Leon Marchand is being pursued by several young people, but he has recently delivered some outstanding performances that have made him the center of attention among swimming fans. He now holds the Pro Swim Series record for the 200-meter individual medley event previously held by Michael Phelps. In Westmont, Illinois, at the FMC Aquatic Center, the 2023 TYR Pro Swim Series Westmont held from April 12 through April 15.

The 200-meter individual medley competition took place on the last day of the TYR Pro Swim Series Westmont. During the fifth heats of the 200-meter IM, Leon Marchand competed in lane 5. After the 200-meter individual medley heats, he recorded a time of 2:01:51 and came in first place overall. The French swimmer started in lane four of the 200-meter individual medley final. In the finals, he ran a time of 1:55.68. Marchand lowered the time below 1:56. He beat Michael Phelps’ Pro Swim Series record from 2012 when he finished in 1:56:32, which had stood for more than ten years.

However, Leon’s time of 1:55.68 at Westmont is slightly slower than his best time in the 200-meter individual medley. The talented young swimmer finished at 1:55:22 at the Budapest 2022 World Championships. He ranked sixth among all male athletes after this swim. Additionally, it put him 1.22 seconds away from Ryan Lochte’s 1:54:00 world record time. Shaine Casas finished second in the 200-meter individual medley at Westmont and took home the silver medal with a time of 1:56.06. The bronze medal went to Chase Kalisz, who placed third overall with a time of 1:58.78.

Leon Marchand had a particularly good year in 2018, as evidenced by his two gold and one silver medals from the 2022 World Championships. After that, he produced three performances at the 2023 NCAA Championships that won gold medals. He finished the 400-meter individual medley at 4:04:28 in 2022. He now ranks as the second-fastest man in history, narrowly missing out on 2008 world record holder Michael Phelps’ time of 4:03:84.

The current world champion in the 200- and 400-meter individual medleys, Leon Marchand, will compete at the 2023 World Championships later this year. At the 2023 World Championships, he will undoubtedly try to beat Michael Phelps’ 400-meter individual medley world record. At the TYR Pro Swim Series in Westmont, Leon also participated in the 400-meter individual medley, where he recorded a time of 4:07.80 to take the top spot globally this season.
