Mumbai native Prabhat Koli - Youngest to finish Oceans Seven

The young man was recognized for his accomplishment by the Marathon Swimmers Federation and the World Open Waters Swimming Association

The incredibly difficult Oceans Seven challenge was successfully completed by Indian swimmer Prabhat Koli, 23, making history as the youngest person to ever do so. Despite difficult weather, the long-distance swimmer succeeded in his challenge as he swam across the Cook Straight in New Zealand in 8 hours and 41 minutes.

The young man was recognized for his accomplishment by the Marathon Swimmers Federation and the World Open Waters Swimming Association as he became the youngest person to complete the arduous challenge. The ultimate challenge of Oceans Seven, which has been a dream for many professional swimmers around the world, was the best moment of Koli’s swimming career, which spanned more than 15 years.”

The Oceans Seven are a group of extremely competitive waterways that include the English Channel between England and France, the North Channel between Ireland and Scotland, the Straits of Gibraltar between Spain and Morocco, the Catalina Channel between Santa Catalina Island and California, the Molokai Channel between Molokai and Oahu in Hawaii, the Tsugaru Strait between Honshu and Hokkaido in Japan, and finally the Cook Strait between the north and south islands of New Zealand.

By finishing the task, the 23-year-old said, “I can feel the magnitude of happiness. My years of training under various conditions have finally paid off,” the Mumbai boy said. Additionally, he mentioned that the final stretch of the challenge in the Cook Strait off the coast of New Zealand was a little challenging because of the weather changes and wind gusts.

As he said, “It was worth trying the final assault after grueling preparation lasting several months,” Prabhat’s father Raju Koli was incredibly proud of his son’s accomplishment.” The adoring father of the competitive swimmer exclaimed, “We are relieved now. Raju exulted in the honors of his son’s exceptional achievement and said, “I feel proud to witness a rousing reception that was arranged by the high commissioner of India to New Zealand, Neeta Bhushan. The Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award, the country’s highest distinction in the adventure industry, was given to Koli.

Who is Prabhat Koli?

Indian open-water swimmer Prabhat Raju Koli (born July 27, 1999) is based in Mumbai. The Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award was given to Koli in 2018 by Ramnath Kovind, the Indian president. The Maharashtra government also gave him the Shiv Chhatrapati Award.

Koli competed in the 81 km (50 mi) India National Open Water Swimming Competition in West Bengal in 2016. He has completed swimming feats such as swimming 66 kilometers (41 mi) around the Isle of Jersey, 34 kilometers (21 mi) across the English Channel, 8 kilometers (5 mi) in the Langban Swim in Cape Town, South Africa, 7 kilometers (4 mi) from Robben Island to Blouberg, 8 kilometers (5 mi) from Landudno to Campus Bay, 32 kilometers (20 mi) across the Catalina Channel in California, and 42 kilometers (26 mi) across the Molokai Channel in Hawaii.

Prabhat Koli swam the 45.9 kilometers (28.5 mi), 20 Bridges Swim in New York; 15.2 kilometers (9.4 mi), Bodenseequerung, Lindau, Germany to Rorschach, Switzerland; 19.5 kilometers (12.1 mi); 35 kilometers (22 mi); and 14.4 kilometers (8.9 mi), Tsugaru Strait, Japan; and 14.4 kilometers (8.9 mi), Strait of Gibraltar, Spain to Morocco.
