World Sports Calendar 2023: Find Out the important events in June

The world sports calendar for June will be crammed with events which will be at the business end of the tournaments. The goal is to compete in as many events as possible, which will inspire athletes from all over the world. The 2023 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and the upcoming World Lacrosse Championships will be notable events this month. Another important event of which India is a part is the Wrestling Ranking Series which is going on in Kyrgyzstan. This ranking series will be the third-ranking series in the sports calendar of wrestling. A contingent of 30-35 including the wrestlers will be heading to Kyrgyzstan. Many top badminton players are participating in the Thailand Open 2023, one of the important events on the BWF circuit.

Top Events in the Month of June to look out for:

NBA Finals

The month of June will also see the finals of the NBA 2023 championship. It will be the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s 2022–23 season and the conclusion to the season’s playoffs. The best-of-seven playoffs will be played between the Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat and the Western Conference champion Denver Nuggets. The series is planned to start on June 1, with a possible Game 7 scheduled for June 18. Sponsored by the streaming service YouTube TV; the series is officially known as the 2023 NBA Finals presented by YouTube TV due to sponsorship rights.

US Open

Golf enthusiasts will have a treat to watch as their favourite players will take centre stage in the US Open. The United States Open Championship, commonly known as the U.S. Open, is the annual open national championship of golf in the United States. It is the third of the four major championships in golf and is on the official schedule of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. 

European Games

Apart from these championships, the latter half of the month will see the sporting action shift to Europe. The focus will be the 3rd European games which are scheduled to start on the 21st of June. European Game is a continental multi-sport event in the Olympic tradition contested by athletes from European nations and several transcontinental countries. The Games were envisioned and governed by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in Rome on 8 December 2012. The games were for the first time started in 2015. All Olympic sports held at the 2023 European Games will provide qualification opportunities for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

Stanley Cup Finals

Stanley Cup will be one of the important events in the sports calendar. The Stanley Cup Finals in ice hockey is the National Hockey League’s (NHL) championship series to determine the winner of the Stanley Cup, North America’s oldest professional sports trophy. The 2023 Stanley Cup Finals will be the decider of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) 2022–23 season. The series will be contested between the Eastern Conference champion Florida Panthers and the Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights. This will be the first finals series since 2018. The Golden Knights were also part of that series finals. For the first time since 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Finals are set to run through the first weeks of June starting from June 3rd. None of the teams have any experience of lifting the silverware and it will be interesting to see who is crowned the champion of NHL.
