Hockey India Annual Awards 2023: Hardik Singh and Salima Tete honoured with Balbir Singh Sr. Award

The Hockey India Annual Awards 2023 were held on Sunday in New Delhi to honour various hockey players and officials for their achievements.

The Hockey India Annual Awards 2023 was held in New Delhi on 31st March where various hockey players and officials were awarded for their achievements in hockey. The biggest awards of the night were the Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Awards for Player of the Year.

Hockey Indian Balbir Singh Sr. Award which was presented to Hardik Singh and Salima Tete, Hardik Singh was also awarded by Hockey India Ajit Pal Singh Award for Midfielder of the Year. Hardik Singh, the recipient of the prestigious Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of The Year 2023, has also been recently named the 2023 FIH Player of the Year.

The 6th edition of the Hockey India Award ceremony was attended by several renowned names in Indian hockey. At the event, Shri Ashok Kumar was presented with the prestigious Hockey India Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, Hardik Singh and Salima Tete were both felicitated with the Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year 2023 in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.

Hockey India Award 2023 consisted total prize pool of 7.56 crores. The ceremony started with the speech of the Secretary-General of Hockey India Shri Bhola Nath Singh, where he gave a warm welcome to the respected guests, celebrities, and hockey stars.

Hardik Singh has been a key player for the Indian Men’s Hockey Team since the beginning of his career. He is well-known for his talent and strategic thinking on the field. Singh’s hard work and dedication have played a vital role in the team’s recent success. On the other hand, Salima Tete, who won the Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year for Women, has been a significant asset to the Indian Women’s Hockey Team. Tete’s exceptional skills and strategic play have contributed significantly to the team’s recent climb in international rankings.

Early Career of Hardik Singh

Hardik Singh is a professional field hockey player from the Punjab region of India, born on September 23rd, 1998. He is known for his skills as a defender and midfielder and his dedication to the sport. Singh’s family has a strong hockey background, with his father, Varinderpreet Singh, also having played for the Indian national team, and several other family members representing India in the sport. In 2018, Hardik Singh made his debut for India’s senior team at the Hero Asian Champions Trophy in Muscat, and he has since played an important role in India’s international successes. He was part of the team that won a bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Early Career of Salima Tete

Salima Tete is an Indian hockey player born on December 26, 2001, in Jharkhand. She is known for her excellent defence skills. In 2018, Salima captained the Indian junior team that won a silver medal at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. She played a key role in India’s victory over the United States in the FIH Olympic Qualifiers and has been a strong performer in recent years. Salima was one of India’s top players at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where the team finished fourth. She is the second player from Jharkhand to compete in the Olympics, after Nikki Pradhan. Salima was also part of the Indian team that finished third at the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup.

The Hockey India Annual Awards 2023 was a ceremony that acknowledged the contributions of players, coaches, and officials across all levels of Indian hockey. The event also honoured other deserving players and legends of Indian hockey. Ashok Kumar, a very talented hockey player, was presented with the Hockey India Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award. Awards were also presented in various other categories.
