Australia seamer Andrew Tye has replaced injured England fast bowler Mark Wood in the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Wood suffered an elbow injury during England’s first Test against the West Indies earlier this month. Tye had joined the debutant side for a sum of INR 1 crore.

The development comes after Lucknow Super Giants’ mentor Gautam Gambhir’s first-choice replacement — Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed — was denied a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) by his cricket board due to the crucial schedule of his national team.

The BCB highlighted that the veteran bowler is a crucial part of the national team setup and it will not be right to allow him to participate in the lucrative tournament during a crucial schedule.

”Since we have two important series like the ongoing home tour of South Africa and the home series against Sri Lanka, we feel it won’t be right for him to take part in the IPL,” BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus told reporters.

”Since we have two important series like the ongoing home tour of South Africa and the home series against Sri Lanka, we feel it won’t be right for him to take part in the IPL,” BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus told reporters.

Gambhir was keen on bringing Ahmed to the side for their maiden IPL campaign.

“The management of Lucknow Super Giants have contacted us as they are willing to rope in Taskin for the upcoming season. However, since the national team is engaged in a crucial series in South Africa and we also have an important home series against Sri Lanka, we are yet to decide on whether to give the no objection certificate (NOC) to Taskin,” Jalal told The Daily Star on Monday.

“I want Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed in the team and that is for the whole season. If he agrees to the offer, Taskin will have to leave for India before the next two Tests against South Africa,” Gautam reportedly told the media.

Andrew Tye: A look at his IPL record

Tye has represented Australia in 32 T20Is and picked 47 wickets. The right-arm pacer has so far played 27 IPL matches and picked 40 wickets.

In fact, Tye is best known for picking up a hat-trick in his IPL debut, as he went on to dismiss Ankit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary and Shardul Thakur in the final over of the Rising Pune Super Giants innings. He also became the first-player in the history of IPL to take a hat-trick on debut while achieving the feat for Gujarat Lions in the 2017 edition.

LSG will begin their IPL 2022 campaign on March 28 when they take on Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
