Delhi Capitals registered a convincing win by 8 wickets over Rajasthan Royals in the 58th Match of the IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on Wednesday (May 11). Royals posted 160 runs in 20 overs which Capitals easily chased down within 18.1 overs on the back of David Warner (52) and Mitchell Marsh‘s (89) incredible innings.

Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first. They managed to have a good start with the dangerous opener Jos Buttler falling for a mere 7. However, R Ashwin scored a quickfire fifty off 38 balls and Devdutt Padikkal scored 48 off 30 balls and guided the team to a decent total of 160 runs. While chasing, Delhi Capitals lost their opener, Srikar Bharat, for a duck. But later on, Warner and Marsh stitched a winning stand of 143 runs and sealed the deal for Delhi as well.

“I honestly thought I smashed it first” – Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh

He said: “Was a tough game. Physically it’s tough when you bowl a bit and bat a bit. Slower balls and cutters, they were tough to score. 160 was par. But it’s about one good partnership. The first four-five overs of powerplay were about as tough a batting as I’ve had in T20 cricket. It was swinging, bit of seam there and there was bounce. Reminds me of Perth Stadium this wicket. Felt like the last couple of games I’ve got back to hitting the ball like I wanted to. I honestly thought I smashed it first, wasn’t worried one bit. Which is probably a good thing because I tend to look guilty when I think I’m out.”
