Former Indian player turned veteran commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has said that bowlers like Mitchell Marsh can succeed against the veteran Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Jos Buttler through his bowling. However, in T20 matches, Mitchell Marsh has dismissed Jos Buttler twice without giving away a single run. The two could be seen against each other again on Wednesday when Rajasthan Royals will play against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

“This is an excellent match-up data” – Sanjay Manjrekar on Marsh vs Buttler battle

Sharing his thoughts on the Marsh vs Buttler on-field battle, Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo: “This is an excellent match-up data. Team coaches look at these stats very carefully. In the last match, Mitchell Marsh bowled three overs. He gave away 34 runs in three overs. He has a chance over here. But this match-up shows that, bowlers who do not give Buttler pace, they have a chance of succeeding against him. Mitchell Marsh does the same.”

Meanwhile, the all-rounder has scalped two wickets in IPL 2022 so far which came at an average of 35 and at an economy rate of 10 as well. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals will be forced to make a change in their playing XI as Shimron Hetmyer has left the bio-bubble for the birth of his first child as well. Moreover, he shared a picture with his newborn child on Instagram on Tuesday as well.

While he was asked who should replace Shimron Hetmyer, Manjrekar stated: “I believe a pure batter should be replaced by another pure batter. Rassie van der Dussen would be my choice to replace Hetmyer. He has played two matches and hasn’t done a lot. But he has that potential. If he finds form, you will see what an exceptional player he is.”

If Boult picks up wickets at the start, he is useful: Manjrekar

The veteran South African batsman got out for 4 and 6 in the two matches that he had played for the Royals earlier. Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar has commented on Trent Boult’s performance in IPL 2022 as well.

He further said, “If Boult picks up wickets at the start, he is useful. He is not as good or reliable in the death and in the middle. Don’t think RR would have high hopes from him. If he was such an important player, MI would have bid for him. His performance has been similar to the last few IPLs.”

Sanjay Manjrekar has also stated that the Rajasthan Royals should give the young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal a long rope in the team as well. However, Jaiswal, who came in place for Karun Nair, played a stunning knock of 68 against the Punjab Kings while chasing a massive total of 190.

However, before his 41-ball knock, Yashasvi Jaiswal had scored 20, 1, and 4 in his last three innings as well. When he was asked whether they should go with the young opener, Sanjay Manjrekar has said that he believes they should as they have retained him.

“Yes, I think so because he was one of the guys they retained and he’s come back into form. But I worry for Padikkal down the order, whether that will stifle the growth of the young talent,” he signed off.
