SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) have launched an official complaint to BCCI over their captain Kane Wlliamson’s controversial dismissal in their IPL 2022 opener against Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Chasing a mammoth total of 210 runs on March 29, SRH lost Wiliamson early to a controversial dismissal after he was caught by Devdutt Padikkal at slip for a seven-ball two in the second over. The dismissal saw India fast bowler Prasidh Krishna square up the Kiwi-ace who edged one to the slip with Padikkal diving to his left to collect the low catch after wicket keeper-batter Sanju Samson managed to get one hand to it.

The on-field umpires referred the decision to the TV Umpire and upon closer inspection he was given out. However, commentator Nick Knight was surprised at the decision, and said “I reckon that might have bounced” on air.

“Yes, we’ve written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The procedure is that the coach has to write and the process has been followed,” a franchise official from SunRisers Hyderabad told Cricbuzz.

Kane Williamson dismissal leaves head coach Tom Moody surprised

SRH head coach Tom Moody was also vocal about the controversial decision as he let his feelings known by highlighting that it came as a surprise to him and the decision should have been made in favour of the batter.

“We were very surprised that it was given out, particularly when we saw the replay. I can understand the on-field umpires taking it upstairs, and when that happened and we saw the evidence. We’re certainly not umpires, but it looked pretty clear to us what the decision was,” SRH head coach Tom Moody said after the match.

Williamson headed into the IPL 2022 season after an elbow injury kept him out of international action from November 2021.

The Kiwi captain who is well-known for playing composed innings at the top of the order and remaining consistent in the process can well be the highest run scorer for his franchise in the ongoing season. In fact, his highest tally in an IPL season, records at 735 which he achieved in the 2018 edition and will look to go beyond that in the IPL 2022.
