Prasidh Krishna and Suryakumar Yadav’s inclusion for India has grabbed the limelight and it has highlighted the depth of talent. At six foot two inches, Krishna is the tallest addition with only Ishant Sharma (6 ft 3 in) taller. Ravichandran Ashwin and Krishna share the same height. The 25-year-old Karnataka-based cricketer has enjoyed an interesting journey so far. Virat Kohli hinting at the pacer being a possible “inclusion” going into the T20I World Cup in 2021.

Krishna has been in great form recently, making his presence felt in the recently concluded edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The pace-bowler scalped 14 wickets in seven matches, accounting for a four-wicket haul. The 25-year-old’s heroics helped Karnataka reach the semi-finals of the ODI tournament, where they were defeated by eventual winners Mumbai. Here is a look at the journey that Krishna has charted.

Prasidh Krishna’s journey

His journey started as a schoolboy when he joined his school team in Bangalore. Under the guidance of Srinivas Murthy at Carmel School in Padmanabhanagar, Krishna enjoyed great freedom. His mother was a former national-level volleyball player. However, the journey was hardly going to be an easy one.

This rude jolt encouraged the pacer to work harder and take the game more seriously. His friends and parents providing quality support in this regard. The increased focus and determination soon resulted in Krishna playing in a U-19 level tournament.

“I didn’t play the first three games. Then I played the semi-final, and got four wickets in the first innings and second innings. That’s when I think people saw me as Prasidh Krishna,” he said as quoted by Cricinfo.

From KPL to India

The pacer was soon selected in the Karnataka Premier League, where he continued to maintain the intensity. Krishna’s impressive performances saw this being followed by his first taste of top-level cricket. Krishna opened the bowling for Karnataka against Bangladesh A in 2015. He took a five-wicket haul, standing out as a serious prospect capable of making his presence felt.

While Krishna has been sidelined with injuries, Karnataka’s fast-bowling riches making opportunities hard to come by. Some of his best spells have come in the where he represents Kolkata Knight Riders.

Former KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik hailed Krishna’s “consistency” in the death overs. His spells grabbed the attention of Virat Kohli who termed him as a ‘surprise package’.
