Aaron Finch-Shreyas Iyer put up valiant effort

But his fellow opener Aaron Finch (58) and Shreyas Iyer (85) put up a valiant effort to stay alive in the leather hunt. Finch hit nine boundaries and two sixes in his 28-ball knock while Iyer continued to play a key role in the chase.

The KKR captain, however, failed to find support in Nitish Rana (18), Andre Russell (0) and Venkatesh Iyer (6), as their wickets fell in quick succession.

Iyer smashed seven boundaries and four sixes while thriving under pressure but failed to help KKR cross the line.

Tailender Umesh Yadav, later, chipped in with a 21 runs knock off nine deliveries as the Kolkata franchise came agonisingly close to chase down the target.

Yuzvendra Chahal picks up a hat-trick

Wrist-spinner Chahal picked up his first hat-trick in the IPL 2022 and registered his maiden five-wicket haul in the lucrative tournament to register figures of 5/43.

West Indies’ Obed McCoy, meanwhile, scalped two wickets.

Jos Buttler makes light work of KKR bowlers

Earlier, English opener Jos Buttler (103) smashed his second IPL 2022 century to power Rajasthan Royals to 217/5. It is also the highest total by any franchise in the ongoing season.

Asked to bat, RR openers, Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal (24) forged an opening stand of 97-run to make the KKR bowlers toil hard for wickets.

Buttler, however, continued to make light work of KKR bowlers and was helped on by the incoming batters — Sanju Samson (38) — to build another crucial partnership.

Samson, who has been short of runs, smashed three boundaries and two hits over the fence in his fiery cameo of 19 deliveries.

Later, Shimron Hetmyer (26 not out), took charge of the innings but failed to find support in Riyan Parag (5) and Karun Nair (3). The West Indies power-hitter smashed two fours and as many sixes in his unbeaten knock of 13 deliveries.

Shivam Mavi impresses on return

KKR fast bowler Shivam Mavi, who returned into the mix for the first time in IPL 2022, impressed with his line and length as he picked up 1/34 while his spin bowling compatriot Sunil Narine returned figures of 2/21.
