Mumbai Indians slumped to yet another loss as Kolkata Knight Riders defeated them by 52 runs in the Indian Premier League 2022 clash at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Monday. MI captain Rohit Sharma asked KKR to bat first. Venkatesh Iyer (43) and Nitish Rana (43) notched up brilliant individual knocks to guide KKR to 165/9 with Jasprit Bumrah starring with the ball. In return, the batter for MI, put on a poor show with only Ishan Kishan (51) putting up a valiant effort in the chase. KKR fast bowler Pat Cummins was on top of his bowling as he picked up three wickets.

MI captain Rohit Sharma was dejected with the performance of the batters but lauded Bumrah for returning figures of 5/10. The premier India fast bowler was adjudged the player of the match for his brilliance with the ball. “I would take that total on that pitch. Was a great effort from the bowling unit, Bumrah was special. Disappointed the way we batted. Poor from the batters. Not really (difficulty of batting on this pitch). We are playing our fourth game here and we know what to expect here. We know seam bowlers will get some help from the pitch.

“We didn’t get partnerships and you need partnerships chasing a total like that. I don’t think so (if MI could have restricted KKR to a lower total). Looking at the way they batted in the first 10 overs, they were 100 runs in 10 or 11 overs. But the way we came back was brilliant. Great effort from Bumrah and the entire bowling unit. Batters let us down. It’s been that kind of a season where both departments weren’t consistent enough. It is something that we wanted to improve today but couldn’t do it,” Sharma said at the post-match interview.

Jasprit Bumrah decodes his best bowling figures in IPL history

Bumrah has had a torrid time in IPL 2022 as he was not amongst the wickets regularly. But he came back roaring against KKR on Monday to silence his critics. He further decoded his bowling and highlighted that he was trying to use every dimension of the ground which worked in his favour. He also believes that it is important to learn from mistakes and comeback stronger.

“It was a good day. I was looking to use the dimensions of the ground. When things are going your way, it’s important to stay in the present and not to overdo things. Whenever you help the team, make an impact, that gives me a satisfaction. That’s the way I always play my cricket, so happy with my performance. I don’t go there with a fixed mindset, I train for all situations and I understand, sometimes I have to bowl at the start, sometimes in the end. I have to be flexible,” Bumrah said.
