Himachal Pradesh bowling all-rounder Rishi Dhawan made a fine comeback in the Indian Premier League for Punjab Kings in the match against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

Dhawan ran through his four overs and picked up the wicket of in-form CSK all-rounder Shivam Dube before dismissing former India captain MS Dhoni in the final over to seal the deal for his franchise on return.

The experienced all-rounder last featured in an IPL match in 2016 for the same franchise. He was also a part of the PBKS squad that lost the IPL 2014 final against KKR.

Rishi Dhawan: A horrific injury changed his approach

Dhawan was bought by the PBKS franchise for INR 55 lakh in the IPL mega auction after he was fit to play. He underwent a surgery after being hit on the face by a ball on his follow through in the previous edition of the Ranji trophy.

“I am making an IPL comeback after 4 years so it was a little disheartening when I got injured in the Ranji Trophy. I had to go through surgery which ruled me out of the first four matches,” he told PBKS in an interview.

“But I’m totally fine and available for selection now. I’ve been training hard and hope to have a strong comeback”

It is understood that following that incident Dhawan has picked up a more cautious approach towards the game and considers his safety first to sustain a long and injury-free career.
